about
Màili’s Mummy is a lovely Gaelic singer and her Dad is a great double bass player. Can you guess who they can be?
I wrote my first ever Gaelic lullaby for Màili. I confess to having to call in the experts, to check my Gaelic and fine-tune some of the words. So— Angus Peter Campbell — thank you very much for your help — Mòran Taing!
I enjoy researching into the names so I can use that in the words. Màili, pronounced like Màiri with a long ‘a’, but with an ‘L’ rather than an ‘r’, means ‘Star of the sea’ (Reul na mara ). I don’t think I have ever met a Màili. I hope to see this wee one sometime soon.
lyrics
Lullaby for Màili Rut
Hi ho ro a Mhàili Bhig.
Bà bà, bà bà,
Hi ho ro a Mhàili Bhig.
Bà mo leanabh, bà.
Tha Màili Rut mar Reul na Mara,
Na nighneag ghrinn, ar gaol gu bràth.
Hi ho ro a Mhàili Bhig,
Bà mo leanabh, bà.
Hi ho ro a Mhàili Bhig
Bà bà, bà bà,
Hi ho ro a Mhàili Bhig,
Bà mo leanabh bà.
Càidil ciùin tron oidhche dhorcha
Is èirich aoibhneach am beul an là.
Hi ho ro a Mhàili Bhig,
Bà mo leanabh, bà.

My father was born in Glasgow, yet somehow I have never visited Scotland. This lovely music sounds like my ticket of return to the country of his birth. Philip Graham

Love the complexity of this track and the rising and falling of the violins, and the texture. Makes me want to dance.
Thank you so much for this album. I really love it, and find it really inspiring my own work on the Witchcraft Trials ❤️ tararosehip

I did find this band in Youtube, Live at Shrewsbury Folk Festival 2023.
For me it was so good, can't find words, it blew me away and still does. dahlrockson
